Marriage License Overview
There are a few things couples should remember before applying for their marriage license:
- Both parties are required to appear in person at the Clerk's office
- Valid photo ID must be presented (driver's license, federal or state ID card, passport, etc.)
- The application will require your social security number
- Bring the marriage license fee
Fees & Discounts
The fee for a Florida marriage license is $93.50 and there is a three-day waiting period before the license becomes effective. If both individuals are non-Florida residents, or if the couple chooses to attend a premarital course, the waiting period will be waived. Additionally, completing a premarital course that has registered with the county will reduce the cost of the marriage license by $32.50. After the discount, Florida-resident couples can purchase their marriage license for $61.00. Couples must present the certificate of completion when applying for the license.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
Marriage licenses expire 60 days from the date they are issued. If a marriage hasn't solemnized their marriage within that timeframe, they will need to reapply and pay the fee again before a new license can be issued. After the marriage ceremony, the couple must return the used marriage license within 10 days to the Clerk's office so it can be recorded.
