Marriage License Overview
To get a marriage license, couple must appear at the clerk's office with the following:
- Valid state or government issued photo ID
- Driver's license, military ID, alien registration
- Your social security number
- The marriage license fee
Fees & Discounts
For couples who do not attend an approved premarital course, the fee for a Florida marriage license is $93.50 and there will be a 3-day waiting period before a marriage ceremony can be performed after the license is received. Many couples choose to take a premarital course so they can skip the waiting period and pay the reduced fee of $61.00. The couple must provide the certificate of completion to the county clerk at the time of their application to receive these benefits.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
A Florida marriage license expires 60 days from the issue date. Couples must use the marriage license before that time or they will have to reapply. Remember that there is a 3-day waiting period for any Florida resident (unless they complete a premarital course). If both individuals are non-Florida residents, there is not a waiting period. After a ceremony has been performed, the marriage license must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days. Couples who choose to have a civil marriage ceremony performed may do so for an additional $30 fee, as long as the license is valid. Ceremonies are only performed until 3:30 pm.
