Couples planning to get a marriage county from Lee county should plan to:

  • Appear in person at the clerk's office
  • Fill out the marriage license application
  • Present valid photo ID such as a driver's license, state issued ID, passport, etc.
  • Know their social security numbers (or alien registration number, if applicable)
  • Determine whether they intend to be married at clerk's office

Fees & Discounts

  • Florida marriage license: $93.50
  • Florida marriage license (with discount) after completing an approved premarital course: $61.00

To receive this discount, the couple must bring the premarital course certificates of completion with them when they apply for their license.

Marriage License Use & Restrictions

There is a 3-day waiting period for Florida residents once a marriage license is issued before it becomes effective and a couple may be legally married. However, couples that take an approved premarital course skip the waiting period and can be married on the same day the license is issued. Non-Florida residents do not have a waiting period. After the couple has their marriage license, it will be valid for 60 days from the issue date. If the license is lost, the couple will need to pay a fee to get a new one. The license must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the ceremony is performed so it can be recorded.

Getting Married at the Courthouse

The Lee County Clerk's office has a decorated matrimonial wedding room for couples that choose to be married at the clerk's office. The cost for a marriage ceremony is $30, and includes 6 photos, a keepsake marriage certificate and online wedding announcements.
