Fees & Discounts
The cost for the marriage license, including the state and county fees is $93.50. Couples can receive a discount on this fee by attending an approved premarital course. The reduced fee for couples who take a premarital course is $61.00. To receive this discount, the couple must bring the premarital course certificate of completion with them when they apply for their license.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
For Florida residents, there is a 3-day waiting period between when the license is issued and when it becomes effective. Until the effective date, a couple cannot be legally married. Couples that take an approved premarital course not only qualify for the discount (explained above), they also are are exempt from the waiting period. If both individuals are non-Florida residents, there is not a waiting period. Once you receive your marriage license, it will be valid for 60 days from the issue date. Within 10 days after the marriage ceremony is performed, the license must be returned to the clerk's office for filing.
