Marriage License Overview
If you plan to receive your marriage license, the couple must:
- Appear in person at a Clerkâs office to complete and sign the marriage license application
- Present government-issued photo ID
- Know their social security numbers
- If applicable, provide the date that a previous marriage ended
- Pay the marriage license fee
Fees & Discounts
The cost for the marriage license, including the state and county fees is $93.50. However, couples who attend an approved premarital course will only pay $61.00.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
There is a 3-day waiting period before the marriage license is effective and a couple may be married. If both individuals complete an approved premarital course, the waiting period will be waived. Non-Florida residents do not have a waiting period. Marriage licenses are valid for 60 days from the issue date, and must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after a ceremony is performed. A Florida marriage license can be obtained in any county, and with it, a couple may get married anywhere in Florida.
