Marriage License Overview
If you plan to receive your marriage license in Citrus county, the couple must:
- Provide valid photo ID's (driver's license, passport, military id, etc.)
- Provide their social security numbers
- Be at least 18 years old, or at least 16 years old with parental consent
- Pay the marriage license fee
Fees & Discounts
The cost for the marriage license, including the state and county fees is $93.50. However, couples who attend an approved premarital course will only pay $61.00. Both individuals must take the course and present their certificate of completion to the county clerk.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
There is a 3-day waiting period before the marriage license is effective and a couple may be married. The only exception is if the couple takes a premarital course, where the wait is waived. In order to skip the 3-day waiting period, both individuals must take the premarital course. If only one person takes the class, the normal waiting period will still apply. Non-Florida residents do not have a waiting period. Marriage licenses are valid for 60 days from the issue date, and must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the marriage is performed.
