Marriage License Overview

Couples planning on applying for their marriage license must:

  • Appear in person at the clerk's office
  • Be at least 18 years old to marry without parental consent
  • Complete the application (click here to get a head start!)
  • Have photo ID (driver's license, state issued ID, military ID, alien registration, etc.)
  • If applicable, know the date and reason a previous marriage ended
  • Pay the marriage license fee

Fees & Discounts

Taking an approved premarital course makes it faster and cheaper to get your marriage license since couples qualify for a $32.50 discount on the fee and get to skip the mandatory 3-day waiting period. To receive these benefits, the couple must provide the certificate of completion to the county clerk at the time of the application.

  • Without premarital course: Fee of $93.50 and wait at least 3 days to be married
  • With premarital course: Fee of $61 and can be married immediately

Marriage License Use & Restrictions

The mandatory 3-day waiting period applies to Florida residents only. If both individuals are non-Florida residents, there is not a waiting period. A marriage license expires 60 days after the issue date, so couples should be sure that they will solemnize their marriage within that timeframe. If the license expires, the clerk's office cannot extend the date and the couple will have to reapply to get a new license. After a ceremony has concluded, the used marriage license must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days.
