Marriage License Overview

Couples planning to get their marriage license from Indian River county, should:

  • Appear together at the clerk's office
  • Be at least 18 years or older to be married without parental consent
    • If under 18, the couple must have a complete consent form
  • Complete the marriage license application
  • Bring valid photo ID (driver's license, state issued ID, passport, etc.)
  • Social security numbers (or alien registration number)
  • Marriage license fee

Fees & Discounts

Marriage licenses in Florida cost $93.50. This fee includes the state and county costs. Couples who attend an approved premarital course will qualify for a reduced fee of $61.00. However, in order to receive this discount, the couple must bring the premarital course certificate of completion with them when they apply for their license. Since Indian River county requires the original certificate, you should plan ahead so the certificate can be mailed to you with ample time before you need it.

Marriage License Use & Restrictions

The state of Florida requires couples wait 3 days before they can be married after a marriage license is issued. However, couples who complete a premarital course do no have a waiting period and can be married on the same day the license is issued. There is not a waiting period if both individuals are non-Florida residents. After you have received a marriage license, it is valid for 60 days from the issue date and must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the marriage ceremony.
