Marriage License Overview

Couples that intend to obtain their marriage license from Holmes county should plan to:

  • Appear in person at the clerk's office and provide:
  • Complete a marriage license application
  • Present valid photo ID (examples: driver's license, state issued ID, passport, etc.)
  • Know your social security numbers (or alien registration number, if applicable)
  • Pay the marriage license fee

Fees & Discounts

The fee for a Florida marriage license is $93.50 which includes the state and county fees. Couples who have attended a 4 hour, county approved premarital course will receive a reduced fee rate. The total for cost for a couple who has taken a premarital course is $61.00. To receive the discount, the premarital course certificate of completion must be given to the clerk at the time of the marriage license application.

Marriage License Use & Restrictions

There is a 3-day waiting period when you apply for your marriage license. While the certificate is issued on the spot, it will not be valid for a marriage until 3 days after the issue date. Couples that have chosen to take a premarital course are exempt from the waiting period and may be married on the same day the license is issued. There is not a waiting period for non-Florida residents. However, if a couple is composed of at least one Florida resident, the waiting period still applies unless a premarital course is taken. After the marriage license is issued, it is valid for 60 days. The license must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the ceremony is performed.
