  • Complete the application (online marriage application available)
  • Provide the clerk with valid photo ID (driver's license, state issued ID, passport, etc.)
  • Know your social security numbers, you do not need your social security card
    • If you do not have a social security number, provide your alien registration number
  • Have the marriage license fee
  • Decide if you will pay for a marriage ceremony at the clerk's chapel

Fees & Discounts

The fee for a Florida marriage license is $93.50. Couples may attend an approved premarital course to qualify for a $32.50 discount, which makes the total price come to $61.00. The couple must use a premarital course provider from the county's list of approved providers and bring the certificate of completion with them when they apply for their license in order to receive the discount. Marriage ceremonies at the clerk's office are $30 and can occur at either office location.

Marriage License Use & Restrictions

Florida residents applying for a marriage license will be a 3-day waiting period before the marriage license is effective. Couples who complete a premarital course may skip the waiting period and be married on the same day the license is issued. Non-Florida residents do not have a waiting period. Once you receive your marriage license, it is valid for 60 days from the issue date. The license must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the ceremony is performed. After the ceremony has taken place, Hernando county clerk's office will mail you a certified copy, free of charge.
