Marriage License Overview
If you plan to receive your marriage license, the couple will need to appear in person at the Duval county clerk's office and provide:
- Valid photo ID
- Social security numbers
- Marriage license paperwork/affadavit
- Marriage license fee
Fees & Discounts
The cost for the marriage license, including the state and county fees is $93.50. However, couples who are Florida residents that attend an approved premarital course will only have to pay $61.00.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
There is a 3-day waiting period before the marriage license is effective and a couple may be married. The only exception is if the couple takes a premarital course, where the wait is waived, or if they are not Florida residents. Marriage licenses are valid for 60 days from the issue date, and must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the marriage is performed. If the marriage license is not used within 60 days from the date it is issued, it will no longer be valid and a new one must be purchased in order to get married.
Who Can Solemnize this Marriage?
Only a select few individuals hold the authority to legally solemnize a wedding. This includes: ordained ministers, judicial officers, clerk of the circuit court, and notaries. Similarly, any marriage had and solemnized by the people called "Quakers or Friends" (in the manner and form that is used and practiced in their society) will be legal and valid.
