Marriage License Overview
If you plan to receive your marriage license in Alachua county, both individuals must visit the clerk's office in person and bring:
- Valid photo ID
- Social security numbers
- Completed application
- Marriage license fee
Fees & Discounts
The cost for the marriage license, including the state and county fees is $93.50. However, couples who attend an approved premarital course will only pay $61.00. The fee must be paid in full. The county clerk will accept cash or credit for the payment, however, if the payment is made with a credit card, you will be charged a 3.5% service charge.
Marriage License Use & Restrictions
You do not need an appointment to obtain your marriage license in Alachua county. They are issued immediately, and the entire process typically takes under 30 minutes. Although the certificate is issued immediately, there is a 3-day waiting period before the marriage license is effective and a couple may be married. The only exception is if the couple takes a premarital course, where the wait is waived, or if they are not Florida residents. Marriage licenses are valid for 60 days from the issue date, and must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the marriage is performed.
